Korean Porcelain Vase Scholars Objects Painting Calligraphy Gangjin Kiln Presentation Vase Governor Inscription Decor

$998.00

A Korean white porcelain vase with a soft bluish tint to the glaze — a rounded, ovoid body rising to a short, narrow neck with a slightly flared lip, in the classic Korean bottle-vase form. Hand-painted in underglaze cobalt blue in a loose, painterly hand.

The decoration — "scholar's objects" (qinggong 清供)
Painted as a loose still life of treasured desk objects:
- An archaic bronze tripod censer (ding) on a stand
- A rugged scholar's rock in deep blue
- A spray of orchid grasses in dark iron-brown
- A small ring/dish and a little tied pouch resting below

Calligraphy
The reverse carries a bold black inscription of four large characters, 詩幽清供 (read right to left), a poetic phrase evoking "quiet offerings for the scholar's studio" — a fitting title for the still life on the front.

The base inscription — provenance
The base is printed with an inscription in Korean (mixed Hanja script), which reads:

全南의特産物伝承磁器는 高麗青磁의本郷「康津 大口窯」(史蹟68호)에서 由來되어 그 빛을 자랑하고 있습니다

全羅南道 知事 高 建

Translation: "This heritage porcelain, a specialty product of Jeollanam-do (South Jeolla Province), originates from the Daegu Kiln in Gangjin (Historic Site No. 68) — the homeland of Goryeo celadon — and proudly carries on its light." It is signed by Ko Kun (高建), Governor of South Jeolla Province.

In other words, this vase was produced as an official commemorative / presentation porcelain for the province, celebrating the Gangjin kiln site where Korea's famed Goryeo celadon tradition began.

- The unglazed footring shows kiln grit and light firing discoloration, with one small rust-brown spot (clearly visible in the base photo)
- The interior is not photographed; the printed base inscription is crisp and fully legible

Please study the close-ups, including the base photo, before purchasing.

Measurements
- Height: approx. 8.25 inches (vase only; photographed on a display stand, which is not included)
