ARTEPHIR
Hand Carved Natural Jade Bodhidharma Sculpture, Qiaose Carving, Custom Wood Stand
$2,690.00
An exceptional Chinese natural jade carving depicting Bodhidharma (Damo / 达摩), skillfully carved from a single piece of natural jade stone.
The artist has masterfully incorporated the jade’s natural shape, translucency, and dramatic color variations into the composition. The darker areas of the original stone were ingeniously utilized to form the seated Bodhidharma and rocky landscape, while the large translucent pale section creates an atmospheric backdrop.
This approach reflects the highly regarded Chinese carving tradition of 巧色雕刻 (qiaose carving)—using the naturally occurring colors and characteristics of the stone as an integral part of the artistic design.
The entire composition is carved from one natural jade specimen, rather than assembled from separate pieces, making each element of the sculpture inherently unique.
The carving is accompanied by its custom-made fitted wooden display stand, specifically designed for this sculpture. Together, the jade carving and elaborate wood base create an impressive presentation.
Approximately 9 inches tall overall with stand, based on the photographs.
A distinctive collector’s piece for admirers of Chinese jade, Bodhidharma imagery, Buddhist art, Chinese scholar’s objects, and traditional Asian stone carving.
Natural jade may contain variations, inclusions, color changes, and other characteristics inherent to the original stone. Please review all photographs carefully for condition and details.
