Antique Limoges Porcelain Vase Hand Painted Ducks Marsh Scene Claret Gilt Two Handled Urn Large French Vase
$2,599.00
A large antique French Limoges porcelain vase, hand-painted with a continuous marsh scene of two ducks at the water's edge.
Details:
- Baluster urn form with two scrolled handles, picked out in claret red and gold
- Flared, scalloped rim edged in gold; the inside of the rim is hand-painted with a floral garland
- Hand-painted in sepia and gold tones: reeds, grasses, trees and water lilies around the body, with two ducks at the water's edge — one standing upright and alert, the other dipping its head to drink — the feathers detailed with fine gilt line work
- Neck band and foot band in a deep claret-red (bordeaux) ground with dense gilt floral vine decoration
- Base bears a red vase-form Limoges Déposé mark ("LIMOGES" and "DÉPOSÉ" flanking a shield)
- Height: approx. 19.5 inches
- Rim diameter: approx. 8.5 inches
- Please note: the round mother-of-pearl pedestal seen in some photos is a display prop and is NOT included
Condition: Very good antique condition, with wear consistent with age, as photographed. There is gilt wear and rubbing on the handles (the claret ground showing through in places) and some gilt wear on the rim band; the footring has some surface dirt, and there is a tiny white nick spot on the rim edge (see the rim close-up photo). No cracks, chips (other than the tiny rim nick noted) or repairs observed.
Dating: We date this vase to the late 19th to early 20th century, circa 1890–1910, based on the style of the mark and the painting. This is an estimate from the mark and style, not a certainty.
Shipping: FREE US shipping. The vase will be professionally packed and double-boxed for safe transit. Ships from Lexington, MA.
